WHAT DO OUR GRADUATES DO WITH THEIR DEGREES?

The political science program can launch a professional career in a wide array of fields. While many students initially major in political science with the intention of pursuing a career in law or electoral politics, department alums have gone on to distinguished careers in countless other fields, becoming environmental consultants, professors, naval officers, CEOs, communications directors, military intelligence officers, secondary teachers, Congressional staffers, principals, public servants, court clerks, urban planners, and leaders in countless other occupations. The PSC curriculum prepares students to flourish in graduate school by building the excellent writing, research, and analytical skills that these programs demand. In recent years, political science majors and minors have been accepted into first-rate graduate, policy and law schools all over the country, including at Duke, Emory, Georgetown, Georgia State, NC State, George Washington University, Pepperdine, Temple, Texas A&M, University of Amsterdam, University of Alabama, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of South Carolina, University of Kentucky, University of Southern California, Valparaiso, Villanova, and Wake Forest.

"I am so grateful that the PSC faculty were there to help me both in and out of the classroom. They challenged me in a way that I had not been challenged before. Looking back, I am so grateful that they pushed me to be the best writer I could. They not only drastically improved my writing skills, but they taught me so much about the world around me. Any student would be lucky to have them as their teacher. They have helped make me who I am today."

Ms. White was the president of  HPU's chapter of Amnesty International and studied abroad in Wales where she interned with the Minority and Ethnic Women’s Network. After graduation, she interned with CampaignCorps before becoming Research Director for Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus.

"I came to High Point for the small classes, and I majored in political science because you can do pretty much anything with the degree. The faculty helped me to get an interesting internship position that was extremely flexible with my busy schedule"
     -D. Hussey, '07

During her first year at High Point as a transfer student, Ms. Hussey interned in the Asheboro district office of US Congressman Howard Coble.  After graduation, she took a job with Davidson Country's Clerk.
