Students considering attending law school after graduating from High
Point will want to begin consulting with
the university's pre-law advisor and the career services' staff early in their college years.
Pre-law advising increases the likelihood of gaining admission to a law school and
decreases the stress and uncertainty associated with the graduate school
applications process. More importantly, taking advantage of pre-law
advising as early as possible helps students to identify the small
number of law school programs best suited to
meet their individual needs and professional aspirations.
Early preparation for law school is more important
now than ever before. Nationally, law school admission rates have
declined in recent years due to a substantial increase in the number of
applicants: Presently, the nationwide law school acceptance rate is only 46 percent of applicants. Fortunately, the
acceptance rate is much higher for High Point alumni; since 2000, over two-thirds of our
graduates applying to law programs have gained admission to at least one law school.

Pre-law Club is recognized and funded by the Student
Government Assn.
The club sponsors social activities and service events.
High Point offers many resources and opportunities
for students who have decided that going to law school is the
right professional career choice. Dr. Ringel works one-on-one with
students to develop individually tailored plans of law school
preparatory coursework. The pre-law advisor also guides and assists
students as they write preliminary drafts of the personal statement that
is required by most law school admissions committees.

Each year, the Phi Alpha Delta chapter invites
qualifying students to join the nation's largest,
most prestigious pre-law honor society
Students should know that High Point University and
our pre-law advisor offer more than just practice tests and practical advice on
the mechanics of getting into law school. Many pre-law advisees choose to
deepen and share their interests in the legal profession with
student peers by joining the
university's Pre-Law Club and High Point's chapter of the national pre-law
fraternity (Phi Alpha Delta). Moreover, pre-law advising works best when
complemented with one or more of the several law-centered courses
offered at
High Point.
In sum, if you already have decided to pursue a career in the legal profession or are just interested in
getting some basic information about what the study of law might have to
offer, you should contact Dr. Ringel to schedule an advising session.
