MAJOR IN HISTORY
WITH TEACHING CERTIFICATION IN THE SOCIAL
STUDIES
The
History with Certification in
Social Studies major is
available only in conjunction
with enrollment in the Teacher
Education Program. A
student who desires to become
certified to teach social
studies on the secondary level
must complete 39 hours in
history. These 39 hours
include the following core
courses in the major:
HST 101 and HST 102. Western
Civilization
HST 205 and HST 206. American
History, 1607 to the Present
HST 208. Historiography
HST 211. North Carolina: Past
and Present
HST 499. Senior Seminar
In
addition to these core courses
in the major, the student must
select the following:
3 hours in North American
history (including Canada and
Mexico)
6 hours in European history
(including Russia, Britain,
and Eastern Europe)
6 hours in Latin American,
African, Middle Eastern, or
Asian history.
In
addition to the 39 required
hours in history, a student
who desires certification on
the secondary level in social
studies must complete the
following support courses:
NSC 112. Introduction to Earth
Science
ECO 207. Principles of
Macroeconomics
PSC 201. United States
Government
PSC 202. State and Local
Government
PSC 305. International
Relations
SOC 201. Introduction to
Sociology
SOC 205. Cultural Anthropology
The
student must also complete the
Teacher Education Program in Secondary
Education (see Department
of Education
requirements).
