High Point University starts Phi
Alpha Theta chapter (May
2011). On March 15th, the History Department celebrated the
installation of its new honor society - Phi Alpha Theta, Alpha Xi
Lambda chapter. Dr. Wade Dudley, Professor of History at East Carolina
University, and regional director of Phi Alpha Theta (Carolinas
Region) came to High Point to lead the ceremony. In all, 40 students
were honored for their academic achievement in the field of history
and inducted as members of Phi Alpha Theta.
Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate and
graduate students of History, as well as professors of History.
Established in 1921 at the University of Arkansas, Phi Alpha Theta now
has over 350,000 members nationwide, with more than 9000 new members
joining each year. Membership is not restricted to History majors,
based instead on academic performance as demonstrated in a minimum
number of history courses.
