Science Professor Honored by the North Carolina Student Legislature (April
2007). For the second time in his career, Dr. Jim Corey,
Asst. Professor of Political Science, has been named “best advisor
of the year” by the North Carolina Student Legislature (NCSL). Dr.
Corey will retire at the end of the 2006-07 academic year, and the
NCSL has named an annual event in honor of his years of service as
High Point's group advisor. High
Point College was one of the founding members of the NCSL in 1937, and
today the organization stands as the oldest active student legislature
in the country. More than 5,000 students from dozens of colleges
across North Carolina have participated in the organization’s annual
meetings and interim councils. NCSL delegates have gone on to
remarkable careers of public service, including Governors Jim Hunt and
James Holshouser. Dr. Corey will retire at the end of the 2007-08
