Former
US Ambassador Gives Public Lecture and Meets with PSC Students and Faculty (October
2005). Former U.S. Ambassador Thomas D. Boyatt gave this
year's Capus Waynick Public Affairs Lecture. A Woodrow Wilson Fellow,
Boyatt was invited to High Point's campus for a five-day visit, during which time
he taught various political science classes, met one-on-one with
faculty and students, and dined with students. Ambassador Boyatt
served as a temporary ambassador to Chile in the late 1960s, was named
ambassador to Upper Volta in 1978, and was confirmed ambassador to
Colombia in 1980. Boyatt received the
State Department's Meritorious Honor Award in 1969 "for heroism
in helping injured passengers to safety and taking the lead in
negotiating passenger release with Syria," during the
hijacking of a TWA plane by Palestinian guerrillas. Boyatt is
currently CEO of the Foreign Affairs Council.
